Microsoft® Agent is a set of software services that supports the presentation of animated characters within the Microsoft Windows® interface either through a web page or software application. Microsoft® Agent is not an application that you can simply run and have characters do things for you. Applications and Websites must be specifically programmed to utilize Microsoft® Agent. An example of this is Taylor Made Software's MSAgent Reader.
You must have the following to use Microsoft® Agent:
Windows® 95, Windows 98, Windows NT® 4.0 (x86), Windows ME or Windows 2000
Internet Explorer version 3.02 or later (for web viewing)
A Pentium 100-MHz PC (or faster)
At least 16 MB of RAM
At least 1 MB free disk space for the core components
2-4 MB for each additional character you install.
32K for each additional language component
A Windows-compatible sound card
* (many laptops have built-in sound)

MSAgent Reader
Taylor Made Software's MSAgent Reader enables you to have anything (web page, e-mail, letter, note, etc.) read to you and now includes a great many fairy tales. This reading can be done automatically or on command. An unlimited number of characters can be loaded into your MSAgent Reader and up to 20 can be displayed at once. Any of the characters can be commanded to read anything to you. Taylor Made Software's MSAgent Reader can be run from the standard window, the System Tray or automatically. Now, even a child can have a web page, their e-mail or favorite fairy tale read to them.

Installing Characters
.EXE
Files - Most of the characters in the
Character Gallery are available as self-extracting executable files.
Double-click the .EXE file after you have downloaded it to automatically
install the character to your character folder. You can delete the
.EXE file after the character is installed.
These .EXE files are ZIP compatible so you can
optionally open them with a program like WinZip after downloaded to extract the
characters manually.
.ACS
Files - Microsoft Agent Character Files (.ACS)
should be saved to
C:\WINDOWS\MSAGENT\CHARS or C:\WINNT\MSAGENT\CHARS
This is your character folder.
.ZIP
Files - You may sometimes find other characters packaged in .ZIP
files. Download the .ZIP file, open it with a program like WinZip, and
then extract the character .ACS file to
your character folder. You can delete the .ZIP file
afterwards.
